It’s a 1963 Corvair with a four on the floor and I’m in love. The car runs very well although I need to get a new battery for it and possibly a new voltage regulator as the car has needed to be jumped several times, and the battery doesn’t ever hit full charge when I left it plugged into a trickle charger overnight. For a first car though, I’m in love with it. It has brand new seats so the interior looks awesome and I love how it drives. Couldn’t be happier. Oh and it only cost me 2550 as well!

What... how? $2550 is nothing.

Sweet Corvair, great cars. Just keep an extra fan belt with you. They go quickly an without warning, due to how they twist.

Congrats! Looks like you got a steal!

Bought my first car
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It’s a 1963 Corvair
...my, aren’t we brave!
Best of luck with it, owning an old car especially as a first car is something very special. My first was a ‘69 AMC Ambassador, and I had it in junior year of high school. I remember it fondly.

How did you get that for so cheap?

$2550? That’s a nice price.

Awesome buy. The voltage regulator is definitely a good place to start.

Oh no. There’s one for $2500 on my local CL. And it runs....... That’s a very tempting price.

You know if I had room and time I would get one. I have a 240Z etc... and I saw a picture of this Corvair and I wanted it. You can put a Porsche sticker on it, they designed the engine. I love how odd it is, one big contradiction in American automotive history. Get an Optima battery, don’t fuck around.

Replace the points, coil, and plug wires while you're at it.

They are still cheap, I would buy one if I had room, and the fact that my wife would kill me. It is the time to buy one, no idea if they will ever go up. I’ve been lusting after one like the post I made above. Love it, would be great next to my Z. Porsche designed air cooled, rear engine in a classic American car. It’s nuts and I want one.

Well that’s much cooler than my first car. Take car of her

From what I’ve read about these, a spare fan belt should also be in a travel tool kit.

Oh man, well done. That is such an awesome first car. Go make some (good, safe) memories with it!
That said, you’re sort of screwed from here on out, because this one’s not only special because it’s your first car, it’s also an especially cool first car. So it’s going to be darned hard to top! :-)

Way, way cooler than my first car. Congrats!

Ugh. Blue on blue Corvair makes me a little weak in the knees.

Agreed, great first car. Be prepared for many raised eyebrows. Also be prepared for morons who don’t know jack telling you all about it. Like engine design by Porsche. Thirdly, try not to tell your girlfriends parents what it is. They won't let her get in for fear of Ernie Kovacs style immediate flaming death. I should know. My first was an Ermine White 65 Corsa Turbo. In retrospect, the car was much more special and formative for me than any girls from high school.

Well my parents have a car that I can use if it's not working but so far it's been pretty good and everything in it is pretty simple

Awesome, looks great mate - congrats! :D
I wish I could’ve bought a classic - mom would’ve freaked out though!

My mom was not happy before the purchase. She kept telling me “you better not come home with that car” but she came around real quick once I took her for a ride and she realized it wasn't some heap of junk

A Corvair as a first car? I’m jealous.
Welcome to the motoring world!

The problem with the one I want to import is that it is
an Italian-designed communist city car runabout
with 24hp...
